Come for Flat-coat Rendezvous 2005...
Thunder Bay's central location, in the middle of the continent and at the head of the Great Lakes, made it a natural meeting (RENDEVOUS) site as far back as the Paleo-Indian civilization 11,000 years ago. When the first Europeans arrived in the 17th century they established a series of fur trading outposts and named the place Baie de Tonnerre, or Thunder Bay. In 1798, the North West Company built Fort William near Thunder Bay's Kaministiquia River, and it quickly became the RENDEZVOUS site for Scottish traders, French voyageurs and Native trappers.
Now in 2005, this area, rich in history, natural beauty, and the never-ending opportunity to swim in clear, clean water, will become the RENDEZVOUS site for the continent's most noble and versatile breed of dog - the Flat-coated Retriever!
Thunder Bay is easily accessible from both Eastern and Western Canada, as well as the American Upper Midwest (we are 45 minutes from the Minnesota/Ontario border) ....and the drive here is Spectacular!
Eco-tourist attractions abound in Thunder Bay and region. Whether you're interested in mountain-climbing, wildlife viewing, hiking an interpretive trail, searching for amethyst, or leisurely taking it all in with a camera, you'll find hundreds of fascinating greenspaces to explore.
Oh, by the way, did we mention that the Chippewa Park Specialty site is on the shore of Lake Superior - and has over 50 acres of hiking/dog-run trails that are surrounded by water? Now, that's as close to Flat-coat Heaven as you'll ever want your dogs to get! So, come for the Flat-coat RENDEZVOUS - but by all means, plan to stay for an awesome vacation.
